The RhinoOMS Observations modules allow users to submit and validate rhino observation events.
Specifically, the Submit an immobilisation event tab in the Immobilisation/Submit module allows users to submit rhino immobilisations.
To proceed, please ensure you have the following:
Enter Rhino information:
- Rhino name / Notch number / RhinoOMS ID
Enter spatial-temporal immobilisation information:
- Immobilisation Date
- Immobilisation Type
- Site (will auto-fill based on the site of the registered rhino)
- Section (section within Site / sub-population)
- Longitude (X); must be in decimal degrees
- Latitude (Y); must be in decimal degrees
Click “Check Coordinates” to plot the immobilisation on the map, to check that the X and Y coordinates have been entered correctly.
Within the map, you can change the layers (change the background map, hide/show the Sites), measure distance and areas, and hide/show the inset map. Scroll to zoom in/out, and click and drag to move around the map.
Enter additional immobilisation details:
- VGL (Vet Lab) Sample Number
- Unique Sample Code
- Transponder information : Anterior, Posterior, Neck
- Dehorned Anterior Horn information : Length (in millimeters), Mass (in grams), Basal Circumference (in millimeters), and Tag
- Dehorned Posterior Horn information : Length (in millimeters), Mass (in grams), Basal Circumference (in millimeters), and Tag
- Dehorned Horns Destination
- Rhino Anterior Length and Basal Circumference (in centimeters)
- Rhino Posterior Length and Basal Circumference (in centimeters)
- Transponder information : Date On, Date Off, Type, Frequency, and Cost
- Veterinarian (using only alphanumeric characters)
Enter “Immobilisation Notes”.
Must include only alphanumeric characters (A-Z; 0-9), up to 255 characters.
Browse to one “Evidence Image” for the immobilisation.
This step is optional. Image must be a .JPG file.
Browse to any “Supporting Information” files for the immobilisation.
This step is optional. Multiple files can be uploaded. Files that can be uploaded include: .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .TIF, .TIFF, .PDF, .CSV
Click “Submit” to submit the immobilisation event to the online database.
