The RhinoOMS Observations modules allow users to submit and validate rhino observation events, including notchings. Notchings should be unique to each individual. The Notching/Manager module allows users to view currently used and available notches.
Specifically, the Notch Viewer tab allows users to view used rhino notchings on a rhino ear diagram.
To proceed, please ensure you have the following:
Select the site for which you would like to view rhino ear notchings.
Click “View Notch Table” to load a table of individuals and their notch information, including Rhino Name, RhinoOMS ID, Notch Number, and Notch System.
As with any table view in RhinoOMS, each column can be filtered and sorted, and columns can be hidden/un-hidden using the “Column visibility” button. The table can also be copied, printed, or downloaded.
View individual’s notchings by clicking on rows in the table. The diagram on the right will show the notches, and the green status bar at the top, “Notches Rendered”, shows the notch combination.
You can generate a notching report by clicking “Generate report”. The report will be an HTML file that includes information such as RhinoOMS ID, Rhino name, notch number, notch system, notch diagram, and image for all rhinos on the currently viewed page of the notch table in this module.
You can edit the underlying outline of the ears in a notching diagram by clicking “Edit”. This is to record any variations in ear shape, i.e. if the rhino is missing some of its ear. Within the “Notching Schematic Editor” popup, click on the “Edit Layers” button to manually re-shape the notching schematic outlines. Click “Save” to finish editing, then “Upload notching schematic” to update the diagram for that rhino.
